Next Art Chicago:
An International Fair of Contemporary Art
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Chicago, September 8, 2011– Next Art Chicago, a new incarnation of two successful and long-running art fairs, Art Chicago and NEXT, The Invitational Exhibition of Emerging Art, will launch April 27, 2012. As the largest, most important visual arts event in the Midwest, Next Art Chicago will provide collectors, curators, and art enthusiasts with the opportunity to experience the most compelling art of our day.
With a combined history of 35 years, the new fair will be a considered, cohesive, and tightly-curated event where the most exciting emerging artists will be shown alongside more established figures, affording a lively dialogue between generations as well as a survey of the newest developments in contemporary art.
Next Art Chicago will showcase a broad range of important works of art, from cutting-edge to Modern masters and will continue its emphasis on intelligent and innovative educational programming, exhibitions, and special events.
Staci Boris, Executive Director of Next Art Chicago says, “Since I joined as Executive Director of the fair this past summer, our energetic team has been thoughtfully and creatively shaping the 2012 edition. With considerable resources behind us and the support of new management, we have made several exciting and significant changes in order to build a high-quality, sustainable show for the great City of Chicago, the arts community, and the times.”
Ken Tyburski, Director of Next Art Chicago notes that “it is a great pleasure to be working alongside such an esteemed member of the Chicago art world. Since Staci came on as Executive Director, she has shaken up the notion of an art fair, and through many deep and interesting conversations, both of us are truly delighted to announce such a dynamic re-branding of two great fairs.”
The core of Next Art Chicago will feature approximately 100 galleries in booths ranging from 200 to 800+ square feet on the Merchandise Mart’s spacious and flexible 7th floor. In addition, a new section titled SOLO will highlight approximately 20 single-artist presentations while another, called PROJECTS will feature the installation of large-scale works by participating galleries in an open, generous space.
Other areas under development include a focus on galleries from an important international city, a presentation of works in video and time-based media, as well as a section devoted to contemporary design. Next Art Chicago will continue to produce outstanding projects such as the Talk Shop, special exhibitions, and the acclaimed Art Tours program.
