NEXT announces the appointment of Ken Tyburski as Creative Director. Tyburski will be responsible for overseeing the curatorial selection, working closely with leading exhibitors from around the world in tandem with NEXT Curatorial Advisor and co-founder Kavi Gupta. Tyburski replaces Christian Viveros-Fauné, who is returning to writing full time.
Tyburski brings with him almost a decade of experience working in the contemporary art market. He is a notable dealer of young contemporary art who has exhibited regularly at NEXT in addition to other art shows internationally. His experience and relationships in the community of both gallerists and collectors make him uniquely qualified to expand upon NEXT’s reputation as the major American fair of emerging art. “As a terrific dealer of young contemporary art who has had two very successful outings at the show, Ken is uniquely qualified to take over NEXT’s mantle as a major American fair of emerging art” said Viveros-Fauné.
Along with business partner Dennis Christie, Tyburski has owned DCKT Contemporary, an art gallery representing international emerging and mid-career artists, in New York City in 2002. He will remain an active partner in the gallery continuing his relationships with artists and collectors.
NEXT founder and Curatorial Advisor Kavi Gupta remarks: “As a gallerist and collector, Ken understands first hand what dealers need from our program. He will be able to channel that knowledge into an event like no other.”
"I'm happy to work with such a great event in a city I have deep ties with," said Tyburski. “Chicago has a world class base of institutions, artists and collectors. The addition of NEXT has expanded Chicago’s cultural offerings, allowing a new generation of artists to be accessible alongside the worlds finest.”
Paul Morris, MMPI Vice President of Shows and Events added, “Ken brings a unique combination of skills to MMPI. His extensive knowledge is a great benefit to our youngest fair.”
